Google recently announced that site speed was going to become a significant factor in their ranking algorithm.

These changes have started to roll out across the last few weeks, and I have personally suffered in a big way!

Why Is Site Speed Important?

Speeding up the load times of websites is important for all internet users-

• Faster sites maker happier users
• Slow loading sites have lower user engagement/time spent on site
• Reduce costs of servers resources/bandwidth
• Speed now plays a critical role in Google’s search rankings

How Site Speed Cost Me Thousands Of $$$

Although I was aware of these upcoming changes at Google, I didn’t act on them!  I have been majorly busy over the last few weeks and thought ‘heck I have a monster server it won’t affect me’!

.edu and .gov backlinks have been the holy grail of backlinks for many years. As .edu and .gov domains are only assigned to trusted sources, backlinks from these domains carry more weight and link juice than a link from a .com domain for example.
